| Car shopping advice: The internet has leveled the playing field between the car buyer and the auto dealers. We would recommend that you take a two step process when looking to buy a car. Step #1 is deciding on the car that you want. Look at the auto maker's corporate websites. Go see the cars in person. Take a test drive. Get to down to the level where you can describe exactly what you want (color, extras, etc). Once you have done that, move on to step #2. This is where you approach the car web-portals (see below) and the local Los Angeles auto dealers (see below) through their internet departments. Since you are able to tell them exactly what you want, you are effectively turning this into a purchase of a commodity, and the dealers will be forced to cut to the bottom line and compete on price. I can't stress strongly enough that dealers today appear to recognize two distinct classes of car buyers; the traditional walk-in buyer, who they sell to in the traditional way (hard sell, lots of back and forth, stressing the importance of "service," etc), and internet savvy buyers who they treat as grown-ups and offer their better prices without the hassle. Do your research on the front end, tell them exactly what you want, and then you will be in control of the transaction. | ||||
